My love for travel began when I realized how much I looked forward to our family vacation. As kids, our parents took us to our nearby beach resort, Ocean City, MD every year. It was within our budget and I looked forward to it by making a list of what to pack and saving my pennies for the arcade. Even then, I loved to plan for vacation.

Dana

I didn't begin traveling on my own until my honeymoon. Then, we did not have access to the internet and I was clueless to where I even wanted to go. We chose Cancun, Mexico based on a vacation my parents had took a few years prior. I used a travel agent my mother knew and she whipped out an itinerary and booked us a vacation package, but gave us no clues on what to do or expect. I admit, the first day there I was a bit intimidated by it all. But soon after I adapted and, as it always seems, didn't realize how much I loved it until I got home to tell everyone all about it.

At that point I knew I wanted to go more places and plan my own travel. I wanted to learn all about each destination so that I could handle any fears I had in the past about traveling to an unknown country. I began taking notes when watching the travel channel and studying maps to see what places I could travel to within drive time. Then, I acquired a computer with internet access and became obsessed. Today I am continually creating new itineraries for me and my family to the destinations of my dreams. Some I use now and some I save for later. But no matter where I want to go in life, I will always have a guide to get me there.

York Technical Institute

TAP Test

Dana attended York Technical Institute and earned a diploma in Travel & Tourism. While there she became President of her local ASTA group and was voted as Student of the Term for her first month there. Dana achieved Academic Honors, graduating with a 4.0 GPA and passing the National Travel Proficiency Test in April 2002.

Her experience also comes from working as a Group Travel Specialist booking and planning cruises and vacations for those traveling in groups. There she acquired skills in planning vacations through internet sources and passing on information to her clients by conducting Cruise Nights.
